What is “Positive Reinforcement”  or Science Based Training? 

Science based training is training based on reinforcement schedules.  Ok-so what is that?  Learning is based on what works for the dog- on increasing or decreasing behaviors.  A dog jumping on people ( a behavior we don’t want) is unwanted-we want them to stop (decrease) and do something else so we will will teach an alternative behavior, sitting, and increase sitting by rewarding the sit.  Most training for our dogs need is as simple as teaching cues and reward patterns for different behaviors.  Decrease jumping by rewarding sitting.  Sounds simple and it is, but we find that being human vs being dog causes conflict by the differences in species natural behaviors.  Clear understanding of canine behavior and appropriate management while learning creates a great bond and love of learning for both dogs and their owners.

Rewards based training teaches by rewarding wanted behaviors and creates a dog that is excited and happy to train, learn and live in harmony with their people.  By learning the communication skills that your dog understands, you are in the position to increase the behaviors you want and end the behaviors you don’t want.

We use rewards that include food, toys and interactions.  We will teach you how and when to use them as teaching tools, enable you to communicate effectively and establish a open line of learning for you both.  By learning how & when to reward and use life rewards, a well mannered and wonderful relationship bond is formed.  We all want to include our dogs in our outings as well as our homes and science based training is an effective way to reach that goal.
