As we hear more golden retrievers afflicted with taurine deficiency and Dilated Cardiomyopothy (DCM), I thought to share the info from UC Davis, as the food industry is still in denial about low taurine levels in dog food. I am attaching the link and if you google, you can find out more about DCM and it's devastating impact on the heart and heart disease. There are some companies now selling taurine supplements for dogs, and the exact reason for the deficiency is not exactly known, there are correlations (which may or may not be the reason) between dog foods high in legumes and DCM.
Current vitamin companies offering taurine supplements include: Herbsmith, Nature's Farmacy, and taurine is included in some regular supplements including Nupro.
